January 2005

The Schooner Youth Center was purchased by the Orchard Christian Fellowship from the Epiphany Catholic Church in January of 2005.  The building formerly housed a catholic parochial school until it's closing in June of 2002.  Financing for the project came in the form of a grant from the YouthWorks! Foundation and donations from private individuals in our community and throughout the United States. Pastors Terry Davis and John Custer recognized the need for a full service community center in Monessen and joined forces to build a Governing Board of Directors for the project.  The Board is comprised of local leaders in clergy, human service programs, education, faith-based youth initiatives, and community at large. In the past year, the Board has been working diligently developing, analyzing and processing the required materials necessary to obtain non-profit status for the Center.  It is projected that the Schooner Youth Center will be a free-standing 501c3 non-profit entity by the fall of 2006.
